According to the recent ICMR-INDIAB study (2011), India has 62.4 million people with diabetes and 77.2 million people with pre-diabetes. The increase in prevalence of diabetes and its associated complications is going to create a huge burden on health and economy in the coming years.

  • Parameters screened using standardised techniques random blood sugar, blood pressure, height & weight (BMI)
  • Interviewer administered questionnaire used to collect data demographic details and history of diabetes.

Non-communicable disease (NCD) are now recognized as major cause of mordity and mortality worldwide. The major NCDS accounting for the highest burden of ill health are cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension and obesity.

These conditions have long silent and asymptomatic phase and are frequently not diagnosed until complications appear. Diabetes, hypertension and heart diseases can be prevented to a large extent by lifestyle and dietary changes.
